Slimagination Part 5
Now that we’ve addressed barriers to weight loss success and pinpointed the things that come between you and your goal, let’s discuss some of the most common of those barriers. We’ve designed visualization exercises to address these which we’ll put into practice in the next couple of sessions.
Often, lack of energy is a problem for people trying to manage their weight. You may mean to be more active, but you run out of steam too easily. This usually is not just simple laziness. You may have gotten into the habit of being sedentary. If so, it’s important to take some small first steps toward getting active again, and the visualizations in this session can help get you off to a good start.
Emotional energy also makes a big impact on your physical energy and overall health. Because we’re a whole person (body/mind/soul), things like stress, low self-esteem, anxiety, and other negative mental states can cause you to lose stamina. Many times the mental load of everyday responsibilities and stresses can cause a feeling of exhaustion, even if there was little or no physical activity.
Sometimes, there may be a need to re-evaluate areas of life where energy is being wasted. It can be useful to pinpoint where there’s an imbalance. Are there things to which you’re possibly giving too much attention, or too little? Negativity of course can drain us physically and emotionally. We all know that it’s possible to be on the go, madly busy, and still exhausted. Adrenaline carries us through sometimes, but we’re far from our best. We feel the imbalance. It’s a bit like getting not-so-great gasoline for your car. The car may be running, but the performance is inferior.
Many folks on weight loss plans make increased physical activity a priority, but it becomes just another chore on the “hate to-do-but-have-to” list”. The efforts are often abandoned for being just too hard. There needs to be a refill of “high test” gasoline, so to speak, in your tank.
Energy needs to be regenerated and restored so that the body and mind are alert, active and open to progress. This visualization can help with that.
[ Begin with relaxation exercise and continue from there ]
Be aware of your body...let a warm light enter at your head and begin to run through you...this is your energy...the energy from this light burns clean...it’s not hyperactive or tense...in fact, it burns away any negative energy from your system...it brings with it a feeling of freedom and strength...it moves through your limbs...see your body surrounded by an orange glow...this is the glow of vitality...passion for life...you are a container of energy.... look closely now...are there any leaks in this container? ...Is there anywhere where energy is being wasted? ...See the light solder the leaks shut...your energy is now contained and can flow freely.
Now as you feel your body with all this strength... a peaceful strength...make use of it.... envision yourself in motion...joyfully jumping...running...dancing...swimming...flying!...whatever you like...let the image emerge...feel the power in your muscles...see yourself moving in the way you desire to move...see the ground, the sky, all angles around you...you are in control of your body!
What did you see yourself doing? Keep in mind the nature of your image because it may hold a key to what physical exercise you’re drawn to. Even if that particular one isn’t something that would be for you in your physical life, perhaps some elements of it suit you and would be part of your success. For instance, if you saw yourself performing a perfect high-dive, it’s possible that an activity involving water, such as low-impact aqua-aerobics, would be effective in helping you lose weight.
Next time, we'll talk about how to form a healthy relationship with food and eating.
